The ovolo is a simple and pure form found in ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Originating from the Latin (ovum) and Italian (ovo), meaning egg, ovolo is one quarter of a circle or ellipse. The Ovolo Lamp incorporates both forms - ellipse at the peak and quarter round “ribs” in relief around the base.
The ovolo theme conveys into the shade structure which uses a 4-arm spider to “quarter” the round veneer drum. Hand shaped from salvaged timber beams, the Ovolo Lamp has a solid, five-inch-square base.
